MTIV "What If" (Continued)

So Originally I wanted to do a photo mosaic, but after a week of trying to make it work, I realized that it was going no where. I wanted to take the same idea of every piece of something makes up its whole. So after thinking about what else wold show this better than a photo mosaic. Then I realized that music would be perfect. Every note with every instrument matters in a song. If you change a small part of a song it makes the final product completely different. So I then wrote a twenty second musical part. I then examined it and asked a bunch of what if questions.  I came across something that would really make the song better and feel more complete, lyrics. So I then added some lyrics over my music and it finally felt complete.

Here is the link to download my song.

Impact Ideas

To me the best thing for society is to help society's moral. I agree with everyone else that helping the environment would also be great. If you have ever been to New Orleans the atmosphere there is great. So what could we do to make our city feel better and lively. How about a jazz band on some of the corners downtown or even on the canal. Bringing music to our city would help our society feel more at home and energetic. What else causes people to be outside and enjoying the atmosphere of the city. How about some public art. I know we have those corny moving human figures, but those are horrible. How about some sculptures that people can really appreciate. It also would bring beauty to the city. Something else that would bring people together downtown is some more bars in better areas. So why not put a strip of bars on the canal. It's a beautiful area and one that is cut off from cars so you can enjoy the weather outside too. Then for a couple ideas to help the environment  I would say something to help this gas crisis. So why not make some roads through out the city that are only there for walkers or bikers. they wouldn't have to deal with city traffic and could still get some where quickly. I know we have horse and buggies all over town, but what if we got some bike and buggies like in japan or china that we kind of like taxis. I don't know if these are realistic, but to me they would really help our community out.

MTIV "What If"

On page 89 of the MTIV book I found a quote and a reaction to the quote, "Nothing really matters...". His reaction was that this quote was completely wrong, which i agree with. Everything does matter especially with design. So I then decided to make a mosaic photo to show how each little part makes up the bigger picture. So far I am not even close to being done and the only "what if" I have is what if I chose something easier. This has turned out to be almost impossible. I have been taking photos that I think will work for a certain part but they totally don't end up working. I'm going to spend all day putting together what I have and hopefully it will turn out the way I want it to. We'll just have to see.

Photo Safari Extra

Photo Safari

For this project I went to the most familiar place to me, the canal. I really wanted to capture the environment of the canal and all the things that make it an attraction. So I first started looking at the design of the canal that makes it special. One of my favorite things is the design of the bricks on the sidewalk. So I took an image of the circular design to show the flow of the bricks. I also took a picture of the brooks on the side wall. This shows the lines and direction of the canal, which also incapsulates the flow of the canal. Then I wanted to take a picture that shows the feeling you get while on the canal. So what better to show than the breeze and sun. The plant blowing in the wind was perfect for this. Lastly I wanted to show the activities that you can do on the canal and how much fun those activities can be. The bikes ride along the canal also showing another instance of the flow of the canal. Then I took a picture of the kayaks. This image shows exactly what the canal is all about. People getting outside and enjoying the weather at a very nice attraction, the canal.

Piece of Paper

I originally wanted to make something with the sheet of paper but then i realized I should just do something on the sheet. So I kind of put it off until the weekend. Then after hanging out with one of my friends on friday night, he died in a motorcycle accident later in the night. So then I knew I wanted to do something for this project that includes him. So after going to his funeral on Monday and listening to his sister talk about him I knew exactly what to do. She said as she was going through his journal the night before she came across a quote that she really wanted to share. That quote was, "Our experiences always change us, but how we interpret those changes always leads us." I thought this really tied in with some of our other talks about how we learn and how we become who we are. So for this project I wrote that quote on the sheet of paper and then put it in my wallet. I now can carry his words with me wherever I go and can also live by those words.

Story

Out of all the projects we have done so far in this class, this one had the most possibilities. Almost every form of art or media has a story behind it. So I started thinking of what displays a message or tells a story the most. The first thing that popped into my head was, "a picture is worth 1000 words". At first I though I would just take a picture that had a lot of meaning behind it. So I started looking at photographs that have been meaningful to me to come up with some ideas. Then I came across this picture of two homeless teenagers holding a gun. They explain the reason to them having a gun as to defend themselves if the need came. This just kind of seems ironic to me. Why would two young teenagers need a gun to defend themselves? If anything I would think that it would get them into more trouble. Basically they are making themselves a target for violence or even death. So I took all the meaning in this photograph and tried to display it in a drawing. I started by painting a target for the background. Then I placed the kid with a gun in the center of it. This symbolizes the results of his actions. If he is going to be carrying around a gun on the street then all he is doing is making himself a target for someone else with a gun. To me I see this as a root of violence on the streets. If someone sees another person with a gun the first thing to pop in their head is that that person could be a threat to them and some self defense may be necessary. So if a problem arose that could have been solved by words may now turn into a violent fight.
